I have decided to really drink 8 glasses of water a day and see how it effects my health, wish me luck !!!!!

Water is the medium that stores and delivers nutrients to our cells. In fact, all metabolic processes depend on the presence of water. As we age, the body’s water content gradually diminishes – our cells literally begin to dry up.

It is important, therefore, to continually replace water. We may think that we can get water from other beverages, as water is the base for fruit juice, pop, coffee, and tea. But all these beverages require water to be metabolized – their digestion and assimilation use up more water than they supply. Caffeine-containing beverages such as coffee, black tea, or cola, as well as alcoholic drinks, are diuretics – they cause water to be excreted from the body.

Consider this: would you take a shower or bath in fruit juice? The sugars in the juice would leave your skin sticky. Sugar attracts water, and it does so inside the body, too.

Weak, unsweetened herbal teas are a better choice, although some herbs can stimulate certain physiological processes that also require water.

Many people don’t like drinking plain water because of its poor quality – most tap water and many types of bottled or filtered water taste bland. Try a splash of fresh lemon or lime juice in your water. Mineral-rich mountain spring water also tastes delicious.

Increasing your water intake brings enormous health benefits you won’t want to miss.
